Fall Review Schedule

Day 1 – Friday, Oct. 23

1–5 p.m. Afternoon hike in Dolly Sods led by the Dolly Sods Wilderness Stewards
4–6 p.m. Hotel check-in and Fall Review registration at Canaan Valley Resort State Park
6:30–8:30 p.m. Informal welcome gathering at Big Timber Brewing in Davis

Day 2 – Saturday, Oct. 24

8–9 a.m. Breakfast on your own
9–11:30 a.m. Choice of morning activities: fish identification, a guided tour of the Abe’s Run wetland, or a strenuous four-mile hike through Canaan Valley State Park
11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. Lunch and break. Lunch may be purchased on your own or preordered from the resort.
1–2:30 p.m. The Four Roles of Social Change: Advocacy Training with keynote speaker Eileen Flanagan
2:30–2:50 p.m. Annual Meeting of the WVHC Membership
2:50–3 p.m. Break
3–5 p.m. Protecting the Highlands: The Work We’re Doing

  • 3–3:05 p.m. Welcome and introduction
  • 3:05–3:30 p.m. Mining and the Highlands with Andrew Young, WVHC board member and Extractive Industries Committee chair
  • 3:30–3:55 p.m. Confronting the Data Center Buildout with Luanne McGovern, WVHC board member and Data Center Committee chair
  • 3:55–4:45 p.m. Stewarding Dolly Sods with Dave Johnston, Dolly Sods Wilderness Stewards Program Coordinator, followed by a screening of Dolly Sods and the Legacy of Helen McGinnis
  • 4:45–5 p.m. Questions and closing discussion

5–6 p.m. Reception and silent auction with a cash bar and appetizers. Browse the auction items and place your final bids.
6–7:15 p.m. Dinner featuring organizational remarks, recognition of sponsors and special guests, and a presentation about the West Virginia Highlands Conservancy
7:15–8:15 p.m. Keynote address by Eileen Flanagan, Quaker author, activist, nationally recognized nonviolence trainer, and author of Common Ground: How the Crisis of the Earth Is Saving Us from Our Illusion of Separation
8:15–8:30 p.m. Silent auction closing
8:30–9:30 p.m. Dessert and silent auction checkout

Day 3 – Sunday, Oct. 25

8–9 a.m. Breakfast and hotel checkout
9 a.m.–12 p.m. WVHC Quarterly Board of Directors Meeting
